Fan Studies include more than sff (sports, romance, religion, etc.); it includes books, movies, television shows, sports, talk shows (Oprah's Book Club); it includes more than a focus on U.S. (lots of European sports, and even fandoms other than sports in Spain, Germany, Finland); it's interdisciplinary (sociology, psychology, education, media studies, reading, composition and literacy studies, religious studies, and of course, my field, literary/theoretical and cultural studies).
